Lehigh Acres was platted mostly in the 1960s, and Census estimates count 82% of its housing units as detached single-family houses. For each window, door or roof job there, USA Home Improvement assigns one dedicated project manager.

What Lee County asks for on each of the four jobs we take on in Lehigh Acres.
Impact windows that resist wind-borne debris, each with its product approval. Lee County wants each full approval number, decimals included, and the approvals on site at inspection.
Entry, French, sliding and pivot impact doors with their own product approval. Enclosing a lanai or swapping vinyl or acrylic panels for glass needs a remodel permit instead.
Wind-load-approved garage doors for one of the widest openings on a house. Lee County’s small-job permit exemption treats garage doors like windows and doors, with the same $500 cap.
Roof repair and full replacement from the same team. Lee County requires a permit for roof repairs as well as replacement, and a tear-off final waits on Solid Waste approval.
Lehigh Acres began in the 1950s, and the Lehigh Development Corporation platted most of it into single-family lots in the 1960s, over 120,000 of them, the county’s 2011 issue paper says. Lee County’s plan still calls it a largely single-use, antiquated pre-platted area, and the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District maintains 311 miles of its canals and runs Harns Marsh off Sunshine Boulevard.
The 2020 Census counted 114,287 people in Lehigh Acres, and Census estimates put 70% of occupied homes in their owners’ hands. Nearly half of the housing units were built from 2000 to 2009 and about 37% before 2000; whatever their age, Lee County permits a same-size window swap as Exterior Openings work.

Lehigh Acres has no coastline, and the one line naming it in six National Hurricane Center storm reports is a 10.07-inch Irma rain total. Our count of the county’s flood layer puts about 4.6% of Lehigh addresses in a mapped flood area. For those homes, flood protection is its own question, since impact ratings are earned against wind and debris.
Lee County’s adopted map makes the entire county a wind-borne debris region. For houses, it puts most of Lehigh Acres at 160 mph and the northeast, around Greenbriar, at 150 mph, by our reading of the map and the county’s wind layer. The county names no exposure category for Lehigh lots.
Lee County’s window application gives each non-impact opening two choices: shutters being installed, or the permit number of shutters already there. A mobile home is the exception, needing no impact protection for replaced windows or doors unless the work is on an addition.
Lehigh Acres has no city government, so Lee County Community Development permits it. A strip of ZIP 33971 on the west edge is inside the City of Fort Myers instead.
Contractors file in eConnect under Exterior Openings, size for size only, with the county’s approval form, a floor plan marking escape openings and the pressures.
For a window job over $5,000, the county issues no permit until the notice is recorded with the Clerk; a roof job needs it on site before the first inspection.
Owner-builders may apply in eConnect or on paper, but they must sign for the permit in person at Lee County’s office on Monroe Street in Fort Myers.
The code 106 final for a window swap is booked in eConnect, on the automated line at 239-533-8997 or by SelecTXT text, with approvals and plans on site.

Your price depends on how many openings you replace, their sizes, and the product series and glass you choose. Each series and glass package is priced on its own, so ask to compare two options at your estimate.
Lehigh Acres spreads across about 93 square miles of land in eastern Lee County, by the Census count, and Fort Myers lies to its west.
Yes. A same-size window, door or shutter swap takes Lee County’s Exterior Openings permit; a resized or new opening takes a remodel permit. A no-permit job has to be tiny: under a quarter of the home’s glazed area within a 12-month period, all exempt items together within $500, and not part of a larger project.
No. Lehigh Acres is a Census Designated Place in unincorporated Lee County, so Lee County Community Development permits nearly every address from 1500 Monroe St. in Fort Myers. The exception is a strip of ZIP 33971 on the west edge, in communities such as Olympia Pointe, Sherwood and Asher Park, inside the City of Fort Myers, which issues those permits.
Lee County’s window and roof documents name neither. In the county’s permit process, the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District takes part only in fire-system inspections. LA-MSID permits connections to and use of its canals, drainage lands and facilities, and also lists permits for new or improved single-family parcels over one acre, so on a parcel that size, check with the district first.
Beyond the products themselves, the estimate depends on the installation scope: removing the old units, any repairs found behind old frames, and the permit and HOA steps your property needs. On a Lehigh Acres re-roof, Lee County wants an engineer’s letter before tile goes on a roof that never had tile, confirming the trusses or rafters can carry the added load.
Products are made to measure, so manufacturing takes about 6 to 8 weeks depending on the project scope, and installation averages 1 to 2 days. The whole process takes about 3 months from start to finish, though it can vary. Lee County’s guide says an issued permit must pass at least one inspection within 180 days or it expires.
Yes. The estimate is free and there is no obligation. Financing may be available for qualified homeowners through independent third-party providers, and terms depend on the program and location. Permit fees follow the Lee County schedule in effect since April 15, 2026, and the county needs every payment before it schedules an inspection.
