Architectural impact windows are fixed, shaped units, from arches and half circles to ovals and trapezoids, made for openings a rectangle cannot fill. Shapes include hexagon, full circle, oval, quarter circle, half eyebrow, half arch, trapezoid, arch, half circle and eyebrow. Because each one is fixed, there is no sash to fit into the curve.
The real work is getting the shape, size and frame profile right, so the new unit lines up with the window below it and the trim around it.
That is the starting point. Curves and angles are measured at the opening, and the unit is made to that shape and size, so it fits the arch, half round or trapezoid already in your wall. If the opening has shifted or was built out of square, that shows up at the estimate, before anything is ordered.
Half circles and arches usually sit over a door or a wide window; quarter circles and half arches often come in pairs on either side of an opening; trapezoids follow a sloped ceiling line. Full circles, ovals and hexagons tend to work alone, as accent windows on a front wall or a stairwell.
